The kids have been planning this day for weeks. H. has had her outfit picked out for weeks. She checked her hair about 15 times in as many minutes and looked beautiful each time. The boys chose their clothes this morning. I'm not sure if a black shirt really goes with navy blue shorts but according to my first grader that's just a technicality, at least he has pants on and they're clean. He thought he was all ready for school until he found out today he wouldn't get to come home for lunch. Then he said he wasn't sure about this all day school thing. My fourth grader is sad he won't get to play with his best friend in third grade at recess because they will have to be on separate play grounds but he is super excited about his teacher.
After we dropped the kids off at school I asked my 3 yr old if he wanted to celebrate by going to get a smoothie. He said he didn't want to celebrate because he wasn't happy about the kids going to school. I thought that was pretty sweet. He also said he needed to get ready to go to spider school. I said, "oh, you're not going back to fish school like you did last year?" He said,"No, I graduated to spider school." Apparently at spider school you learn how to make webs, catch bugs, and climb up walls. All very important things for a three year old to be proficient at.
Well here's three cheers for a new school year full of new friends, new achievements and new adventures.
