We were given our first Skippyjon Jones book this Christmas by Doug and Michele. Their advice to us was "Read it out loud with the accent!" So we did......well C- did and we all laughed and loved it. We all highly recommend it.
Today we had the opportunity to go to a reading and book signing by the author, Judy Schachner. (click on her name to go to her web-site) I just want everyone to know she is amazing! The book store was a little one not far from our home so we were able to really be up close and interact with her. She began with a question and answer period so of course Doodle was the first one with his hand up (he is our family spokesperson after all). With Doodle you never know what you're going to get when he's in front of a crowd so I was a little nervous about what he would come up with for his question. He did great though and asked how she got the idea for Skippyjon Jones. Her answer was so fun and her telling was so animated I thought, "This lady and Doodle were cut out of the same cloth." We really enjoyed the whole thing.
When we went to have our books signed J- told her that, "Skippy Rocks!" She laughed and inscribed his book with a little drawing of Skippy saying, "No YOU rock!"
After that Doodle gave her a drawing inspired by Skippyjon Jones and the Big Bones and told her it was a "..thank you gift.." She seemed very touched by this and even became a little emotional. She told him she would put it in her journal when she got home.
Today was a great day for our family of readers and an inspirational one for a couple of aspiring artists.

The book signing sounds like so much fun. It was fun to hear about the kid's interaction at the book signing with the author.
