our family got Down and Derby last night

Oh the dirt, sweat, and tears! Oh the slivers, paint stains, sanding burns and graphite smugged hands! Oh the excitement and competition!

IT'S THE PINEWOOD DERBY!

-A big deal for all of the boys around here ages 8 - 10 last night.

Well, if the truth be known it's been a very big deal for the boys and their families for the past few weeks culminating last night in the races.

Each boy has worked so hard on his car cutting, sanding and painting. They have complete faith in their car......they know in the very depths of their being that they have created the best looking, fastest, coolest car the derby has ever seen.

Unfortunately, there can be only one first place.

Luckily, the derby is a double elimination bracket race competition. What this means to the boys is that they get to race at least twice no matter what.

When it was all said and done our boy came in fifth and with a special award for the Sportiest Looking Car.

This year's derby car is called the Serpent, it's blue and gold and drives like a dream.

Our boy couldn't be happier....and he already has plans for next year's car.

Way to go Duder!

Here's our little Speed Demon!

Oops! Looks like she hit a speed bump we like to call "Daddy"!

Funny Observation: I saw a scout, after all of the races, pushing his derby car across the gym floor as hard as he could and having it slam into the wall. This car was a perfect replica of an old fashioned race car - steering wheel - fancy exhaust pipes the works. The dad was saying to his son, "Come on! We've been working on this thing for weeks,....for weeks, don't break it before we even get home."

The boy didn't care about the time it took to make, he just thought it was cool to watch it slam into the wall. Typical!:)
