Just thought you'd like to see what my kitchen has looked like the past couple of weeks.
After canning plain tomatoes and another batch of salsa yesterday I can finally see that yes indeed, I do still have counter tops.
So far I've canned a total of 24 pints of salsa, 9 pints of chili sauce, and I have no idea how many pints or quarts of tomatoes -- lots.
Just a tip, friendly suggestion, helpful thought, ----- if you plant 16 tomato plants ....... you'll get a lot of tomatoes!!! Just so you know.
Last week MDH decided that because it was going to freeze he wanted to get all of the tomatoes that were close to being ripe off the vine and into the house so they wouldn't get ruined by the frost. The kids helped him pick every thing and they did a great job. Banana found this cute little tomato that wasn't quite red, actually it was quite orange and it looked like a mini-pumpkin. She thought it was so cute she took a picture. I thought she was so cute I posted it.

I was going to say no further explanation needed on this photo but apparently I can't spell these and so I guess I do need to explain a little .... I'm not sure what happened....maybe I was channeling Gollum while I typed, I don't know.
Yep sixteen tomato plants!!! Lots of tomatoes at our house!!! and we've given bags and bags away!
My favorite were purple heirloom ones. They are so sweet! YUM!
We picked apples from my parents tree last week and so I'm going to be canning apple sauce this week. I love the way that makes the house smell.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the zucchini....I suppose I could make some bread out of it I bet the family would like that. We'll see.

I LOVE harvest time! It really makes me happy to see my shelves full of canned goods, that are so much more yummy that what I can get in the store! PS that's A LOT of tomatoes!!!
Holy tomatoes Batman!! Sorry, my boys have been at home sick for a few days and have been watching old Batman and Robin cartoons... so funny!
I took all my zucchini and grated it and froze it so I can bake with it later in the winter or add it to soup or something. Just an idea. My kids LOVE Zucchini bread!
WOW! You have been busy. yum-yum This winter. Thank you for the tomatoes and also the recipe for salsa. Your salsa is delicious.
Great post!
Gotta love harvest time!
It looks like a Farmers Market in your kitchen. How fun and ambitious. If I do one batch of Mango jam a year I'm proud of myself. Wow, wish I could come to your house for dinner. :)
I am jealous...and not so jealous. that's a lot of work..but how much will you love it when you get to use all of that? thanks for the fun pics!!
Wow..way to go. Your kitchen looks like mine. I can't stand the mess it makes, but I enjoy the end prodcut way to much to stop! This year we found an amazing recipe for zucchini brownies on allrecipes.com. So with mine, I just pureed it and froze it so I can make brownies all winter long.
