Field Trip

It was our State Holiday (similar to Pioneer Day in Utah) Friday. We celebrated by going on a family field trip (what the kids call it). It turned out to be a beautiful day. I love it when we can go have fun on our own schedule, no hurry to be anywhere in particular, just enjoying the journey. We went to south Tahoe and saw the Kokanee Salmon running up Taylor Creek. They are beautiful and fierce looking fish. I loved the little walk we were able to take along the creek and really enjoyed seeing the Aspen in fall colors. From there we went to Apple Hill (not an actual place on the map but what the collective farms and orchards call themselves). We bought 80lbs. of apples and 20 lbs. of pears. I'm excited to be able to can some apple sauce, it's been a while. The Carmel apples where just as good as the kids remembered and I tried a blackberry dumpling....to die for. We explored a new farm where the kids were able to pet some animals and play on old tractors. Our last stop was our family favorite, the farm has a huge grassy hill we like to roll down. I only made it half way down before I had to stop. I just was laying there trying to get over being dizzy when I heard this little voice from my 4 year old say, "Oh no! Mom's dead. She's not moving. My mom is dead, what am I going to do?" I lifted up my head and said, "S- I'm ok." He laughed, jumped on me and said, "I thought you were dead. I'm so glad you're not." ( I wasn't dead but I felt close after he jumped on me.) After Apple Hill we went into the city and had dinner at the Spaghetti Factory and then came home. It was a fun field trip.
The top left photo J- calls big ol' Texas grin. It's what he tried to make his hat look like. I have no idea what little S- is doing in the right top photo but it's funny.
These were taken on our Salmon expedition.
Click on the picture to see it bigger. I didn't notice the "caution" sign until I got home. Kind of ironic and made me smileTaken at the base of the big rolling hill. I sure would have liked to have had a zoom lens for this shot but I still like it. S- was watching everyone roll down the hill. He was a little intimidated by it and settled for running down it. The running seems a little bit more scary to me than rolling, to each his own I guess.
Everyone recovering from their adventure rolling down the hill. I think S- has rescued someones hat.

I had to laugh at the sign and what the kids were doing. Looks like a fun field trip.
