A week ago Friday, the last official day of the kids' spring vacation, we decided to take the kids bowling. They are amazing bowlers by the way.
We decided to drive through town instead of on the freeway. As we were driving we felt the car run over something and heard a metallic clank as it flew out from under the tire, hit under the car and then back down on the road. My husband and I were surprised because neither of us had seen or saw afterward anything in the road. We drove about another block and then were stopped by a red light. By the time the light turned green our rear right tire was completely flat. We were able to limp through the intersection and into a store parking lot where my man changed our tire. At this point there were many things I was grateful for.
First, and foremost was that this happened while M.(my) D.(dear)H.(husband) was with me. Sure, I know how to change a tire but that doesn't mean I'm strong enough to actually do it and can you imagine how stressful that would have been if I had all five kids in the car by myself and that happened. Needless to say we're getting AAA.
Second, I'm so glad this didn't happen on the freeway and we had a parking lot to park in. The cars were pretty reckless as it was and I feared for my husband's safety. If they had been going 75 mph I think I would have had a coronary. Plus, instead of the air leaking out it probably would have just popped making the car hard to control.
Third, the kids were so good and patient and didn't complain once. Way to go kids!!!! It made it a lot less stressful for us adults.
After the tire was changed we continued on our way, had a fun time bowling and made it home without any further inconvenience. (I'll post some bowling video's later.)
The next day M.D.H took our tire to be repaired. Luckily ,they were under warranty, because there was an inch gash in the tire and it couldn't be repaired. The tire place replaced the tire and we only had to pay the labor..(...very nice).
This experience will be filed in my mental "we had heavenly protection today" file.

A few days later M.D.H. had a meeting downtown and decided while he was there he would go see if whatever we ran over was still on the side of the road.
These are all pieces of a pocket knife.
Each of which could have gashed our tire but the blade of the knife had black rubber from a tire on it.
M.D.H. thought of saving it to maybe use as an object lesson someday. He decided against it though, I'm glad because who knows where that thing had been and what it had been used for. We weren't in the best part of town but not the worst either. These pictures will definitely suffice for any and all future object lesson possibilities.
All I have to say is thank Heaven for our small miracle that day.

Wow, what a story! I don't understand what you mean that the blade had rubber on it. Was it a blade cover?
The blade of the knife had rubber marks and little bits of black rubber like from a tire stuck to it. It also fit the gash in our tire.
oh my heck, i guess that would do it! thank heavens hubby was w/you :)
blades go along well with jogging stollers. Bob Revolution stoller. I LOVE IT! It was expensive, doesn't have a lots of the "extra" features, and this was not the first time it got a flat. BUT, it's so smooth, not too heavy, and folds. I would buy it again!
That looks like quite a weapon that your tire found. Glad it didn't cause a blow out and that c was with you.
