Down and Derby

Our pack held its annual Pinewood Derby a couple of weeks ago.

Of course the derby is a highly anticipated part of cub scouts and this years derby was a big hit.

Check out this track -- 4 cars race and --those are laser sensors at the finish-line hooked to a computer. It can tell you not only who came in 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th but how fast they were going. The computer also organized the races making sure each car raced on every lane and against every other car (by the end of the night each boy had raced 12 times). Then it assigned points to each car for their speed and place in each race.

We're talking High-Tech, Fancy-Shmancy!

At the end of the night there was a three way tie for first place. Those boys were so excited. (So were their dads I'm sure)

After all of the races the Webelo's leader challenged anyone who wanted to, to race against his car. He's an engineer and his car was SPEEDY. No one was able to beat him. Not even the My Little Pony on derby wheels. Or the Cell phone on wheels.

Doodle had a great time designing, cutting, sanding, painting and racing his car.

He even already has plans for his car next year.

Way to go Doodle!
