Donut Falls -- Our Labor Day Hike

Our Labor Day Hike --- It's officially a tradition.
Remember this and this (kind of - it was raining) and last year we hiked Waterfall Canyon (I guess I didn't blog it.)

It's called donut Falls because the water goes through a large round hole in the rock and comes out in a cave that you can walk into.
We'd heard it wasn't as impressive as it used to be because the hole had fallen.
I guess this is what it used to look like.

However, we found it was still very impressive. The hike was only 1.5 miles round trip, the last little bit to get up to the hole and the cave was a bit of a scramble with the little ones but it was totally worth it.
Of course as usual MDH took care of the hard stuff ie. carrying Sweet Cheeks the whole way there and the whole way back and helping her up and down the scramble over steep rocks and water part.
If it wasn't for his willingness to do it I'm sure I'd back out and stay home because it would just be too hard for me.

Of course if you're going to go to Donut Falls you'd better take donuts to eat at the falls.
So, we did.
Mmm...donuts....

Yeah, it was pretty crowded.
But that's okay it was beautiful.
Here's a question.
Why are we (Utahans/mormons) a hiking people?
Is it because we have beautiful mountains, canyons, trails and waterfalls right at our doorsteps?
Or
Is it because it's in our blood? The pioneers were definitely hikers.

Poor Sweet Cheeks didn't feel very well but her dad carried her and she was a trooper.

The falls from inside the cave.

MDH and Duder hiked up higher to get a good look at the donut. This is the view looking up from the top of the falls.

And of course I had to include this one.
This is an outing all about tradition after all and this is my traditional spot....bringing up the rear.

If you get the chance definitely try out Donut Falls!
Don't forget your donuts!

We were hiking in Little Cottonwood yesterday. We missed you by a canyon! That looks like a great place. We need to go to the park sometime soon before the weather gets bad.
